The Good Shepherd

Dear First Church,

This past Sunday morning, I spent a lot of time thinking.  I swam in Lake Monona for just over a mile, rode the hilly countryside of Madison, WI for 56 miles, and then ran along the lakeshore for 13.1 miles.  In total, I spent just shy of six hours in the water, on the bike, or on my feet; needless to say, I had a lot of time think.

Rocks in the Riverbed

Dear First Church,

With all the flooding that’s been happening in our surrounding areas it’s made me think a lot about the power of water.  Did you know that no other kind of natural disaster claims more lives in the United States than flooding?  Did you know that floods cause on average $8 billion worth of damage in the United States annually?  And did you know that in the last 50 years the United States has seen a 20% increase in downpours and flooding?  Needless to say, the power of water is real, and it isn’t going away.

Weathered

Dear First Church,

Anyone else feel weathered? Anyone else feeling a little slower than normal? Anyone else tempted to sleep a little later or take an afternoon nap? With our recent weather, I’ve been feeling a little more groggy than normal. It’s like being in a fog almost or like I just woke up but can’t quite shake the sleep off. Anyone else feeling like this or am I the only one?
